I feel a lot better when working physically - and I wanted to be able to create a lot of variation quickly - so I printed my grids out and began sketching.
The content I've been given for the poster only consists of the logotype (which I'm designing myself), the headliner: Sally C, the date of the event (hypothetical at the moment) and the supporting acts.
I took all of the content and quickly sketched out different layouts, also considering my different ideas for visual elements. The use of the half circle represents that idea of curved, round lines to visually convey joy. In others, I've leaned more into the production idea using the traced imagery and wires.
At the moment it's too early to say - but I think that combination of the two doesn't quite work. The half circle is so modernist and I myself associate these designs with more calmness and relaxation rather than joy and excitement! It could be an idea to include stars or some kind of 'burst' shape instead? Still, I plan on taking these sketches into Illustrator and developing them digitally so I'll take it from there.
