Following my helpful insight into rave culture and the moods surrounding it from Christina Goulding, I decided that it might be an interesting idea to focus on visualising that euphoric state. Within my research I was struggling to find anything of interest that would give me prompts for creating work like grids (I think because I was just so overwhelmed) but I feel really positive about this avenue. I can further my research by looking into what visually makes us happiest: colour theory, shape, line, etc. and I want to aim to create a pleasant, welcoming, safe feel for the consumer. I really like the thought of this as I can still be visually influenced by my previous research, but with this idea in hand I think that my outcomes will become a lot more informed and stronger.
The key idea is that I am going to try and visualise that euphoric state that people feel when going to raves through shape and colour etc. Below are some visual examples of what I envision this to maybe look like: Bright, engaging colours with soft edges and strong, easy to read type. From my previous research, I also learnt about how futurism has a massive impact on techno, and in a way I think that this theme is also reflected through these examples. The mix of colours, simplicity, etc.
I also created a list of ten key words to refer back to if I'm struggling once again:
Hedonism
Fantasy/ Euphoria
Community
Identity
Temporary
Fragmented
Non-conformity
Sensory
Stimulation
Along with my 'visualising happiness' idea, I also am thinking about the fragmentation/ non-conformity themes. This could be visualised through collage, breaking grids etc. - something to keep in mind.
Also, it's not one of my words but reflecting on it, I think that futurism is a huge part of techno, and it would be really interesting to explore this visually through gradient mapping, threshold, and modern type. This science-fiction-esque style is quite trendy within design at the moment, so it could be something to keep in mind.
