Robbie Simon

Robbie Simon is a graphic designer/ artist from Los Angeles.

He works with a large variety of mediums and isn't really pinned down to one specific profession. He works with paint, digital, print, illustration. He creates logos for brands (shown above), minimal illustrations and prints, murals, but he's probably most popular for his work in the music industry. He's designed a lot of album covers and even works on his own collaborative radio station - Reverberation Radio, which he of course branded.

Simon is an amazing crossover between illustrator/ designer/ artist, which means that he can change and adapt to almost anything thrown at him - and his style is so developed and beautiful that it makes him very popular with everyone: music artists, brands, people just wanting a mural etc.

Similarly to Patrick Thomas, Simon started off as a graphic designer, but made the conscious decision to make his work very true to himself - resulting in his easily recognisable style that transcends surfaces.

I feel like the reason I like his work so much is because it crosses over modern/ retro styles. His use of simple shapes and lines can feel very modern, but paired with his warm colour palette, it gives off a retro feel.

I find it amazing how Simon can translate his fine-art style into graphic design and it just works. I'm actually really envious as this is something that I've struggled with before. I'm really influenced by fine art/ art history, but feel like I don't get to employ it into my work enough. Simon also works prolifically in the music industry - which I have been thinking about as possibly avenue of work for myself.

WHY?

- Simon isn't pinned down to a singular job role, he is a designer, illustrator, artist, mural maker.

- Simon has a lot of connections in the music industry, designing a lot of album covers.

- Simon has a distinct fine-art style that he incorporates into his design successfully.
