Patrick Thomas

Patrick Thomas is graphic artist and educator. He studied in London and relocated to Barcelona after graduating. He now lives and works Berlin.

Thomas has done work for the International Press and illustrated book reviews. In 2011 he published his book Protest Stencil Toolkit, an interactive publication based around creating protest graphics. In 2007 he decided to focus on on releasing personal, uncommission work. Since then he has exhibited across five continents. His work is heavily print based - creating silk-screen prints and risographs. He also has an extremely recognisable style, focusing on type and a swiss style.

He's worked internationally, works with print, has a strong graphic style, educates, and has founded multiple studios/ collectives. I can relate to Thomas for all of these reasons because they're what I aspire to achieve. The idea of discussing his philosophies of design is very exciting. His work is stripped back and simple - but the fact that he decided to step back and make work for himself is very interesting.

WHY?

- Thomas has travelled the world whilst working as a designer, including Barcelona and Berlin.

- Thomas's work is heavily print based, including silk-screens and risographs.

- Finally, Thomas made the decision to focus on releasing personal, uncommissioned work which resulted in numerous exhibitions and success.
