Product, range, and distrobution

 - Communicating a message, raising awareness etc. - Audience engagement is key for this module

- Alternative strategies/ platforms for communication

- Distributing a message

What you should have completed:

- Initial research completed

- Brief and aims written

- Initial ideas/ range of avenues your brief could take

Where you should be at:

- Development of selected idea - NOW (you've experimented with initial ideas and chosen a key idea to go forward with)

Future:

- Continued development, considering how your designs could work across a range of platforms

- Focused iterations as you work towards your outcomes )across platforms)

- Refinements

- Outcomes

This week think about the core product and how it's communicated, next week we start thinking about range.

(This week think about the ZINE, next week you think about everything else, Instagram, posters etc).

They want to see work next week. Start developing initial ideas.

Strategies/ platforms for communication:

- Instagram

- Facebook

- Youtube

- Publications

- Zines

- Flyers

- Posters

- Billboards

- Interactive posters

- Websites

The Rodina: connection between performance and graphic design.

- Freedom to express, to redefine the process of design traditions

- Action to surface

The role of participation for the audience: they become involve din the design in some way, they have some sort of involvement and they remember the experience.

The design process:

- Incorporating an element of chance

- An extension of the design process, a collaboration between the designer and audience

- Challenging, playful

- Think about an experience or an event rather than an image or text.

- What's an appropriate way to communicate the issue? What's appropriate for your audience? Your portfolio?

- Foreign Policy. Using stickers to visually communicate 'sticking together'.

- Trapped in Suburbia: Book. Turning your book into an experience.

- JUSTFY WHY a publication is appropriate

Interactive elements/ ideas:

- Hi-jacking crossword puzzles/ traditional newspaper puzzles to say an important message when filled out?

- Idea from crit last week, getting people to write in with their happy news/ stories from the last month. Could get Dom to send an email out asking for people to submit their happy news, which could then be published anonymously in the zine/ social media.

- An extension of this is that as well as publishing those positive stories, there could be a blank page where the user has to fill in in with their own happy news. This strategy of writing down positive thoughts or what you're grateful for is called gratitude, and is often encourage by mental health services for people who struggle with depression or anxiety. I really like this idea of getting the user to positively interact with the publication.

- The ideas behind the publication/ the aims definitely relate to wellness, wellbeing etc. Could be fun to put on events like yoga sessions, meditation sessions, wellness talks. E.g Belgrave's yoga sessions/ Headrow's rooftop yoga? Would definitely fit the student vibe. There could be a rooftop yoga session with a small fee and each person receives a zine.

- I had the idea last week also to do a pop up stand on my drive and pass the zines out to everyone running past (a lot of people run down my road). It could be cool to hypothetically take this pop up off my drive and take it to somewhere like Belgrave or The Tetley or Hyde Park Book Club - somewhere where more people will see it.

- I actually live next to a yoga studio and I've seen that they have a little shelf next to the front door with little pamphlets on so I'll definitely drop a few publications in there. If covid wasn't happening it would be really good to set up an event.

Blog posts answering the following:

- How could participation be a form of distribution related to you brief?

- Justification of your identified platform for communication
