Maple Fortress

I first saw Derek Wycoff’s work when I saw his album cover for his band Naked Gods, which he also creates posters for. I loved the combination of different textures and the colour palette. It made me realise that a piece of design doesn't have to make sense for you to be able to appreciate it.

That style is a wonderful mix of clean line work, cheeky illustrations and clever collages, working to brief like a pro. “I always like to incorporate a little bit of psychedelia and I have the tendency to keep chopping things to bits till they are no longer recognisable,” Derek explains.

Although straying even further from the genre of techno, Maple Fortress' Derek Wycoff's work is a beautiful example of using abstract art within a poster. His work is very vintage inspired and so the themes of muted colours and retro type tend to dominate the artwork, however, I find his abstract collages to be really inspiring. I think if used in a tone that suited the techno genre more it could be utilised and work really well.
