Pictured above are the visual examples that I asked the client to provide so that I could get a feel for the visual examples that he likes.
Analysing the visuals, it's clear to see that the client has a preference for 90s-rave-flyer-style design. The prevalent motifs include:
lurid acid colours
repeated patterns
ambient gradients
photocopier graphics
Out of these examples I really like 'SUBCULTURE' and also 'Distrikt' which is similar but more basic. I think that these are nice examples of modern music event companies - classic traits are the bold sans serif logo and grainy gradients.
As for some of the other examples, I find them to be a lot weaker. They are less visually interesting and lack the right tone of voice. I understand that a popular theme within rave flyers is low-production value, however some of these visuals miss the mark completely and end up being the wrong tone of voice. Some of them start to cross over into Vaporwave due to the use of grids, however, this does not correlate at all and is also quite dated now.
Overall, I'm quite excited because I know that I can produce graphics that are a lot stronger for and well informed for the client.
