Modifying an Object

The object that I chose to modify was a sheet of star shaped stickers in order to visually communicate the quote "The average distance between stars out there is 20 million miles". The first thing that I felt compelled to do was stick a large amount all over a persons face and photograph it. I think that I was somehow inspired by Erwin Wurm's 1 minute sculptures and wanted to capture this style, however, I quickly realised that this was a silly idea that had little correlation to the book or the quote.

After scrapping that I manipulated my object using the scanner. At first, my random outcomes resembled the American flag so I began using less stars and more negative space. This gave me the idea to embrace that and try and focus on the distance. In theory, I like the simplicity of the idea, however, once again I think that my technical knowledge of book cover design has let me down in the digital developments. I am fine when it comes to generating ideas and image making but I become incredibly slow when I have to start adding type. This process really slows me down as i'm struggling with typesetting and layout. I also think that I am generating too many ideas and I need the time to be able to develop one to a standard that I like.
