Peer Crit

Peer Crit with Will and Lucy key points:

Instagram pages to look at:

Fayke News
Sweat of the Gods

Things to do with mindfulness:

Could make a brand Spotify playlist and illustrate the covers, could have a QR code to this in the zine. Also something to show on social media, could ask for song submissions!!

Lucy is currently doing a project regarding stress/ anxiety and mentioned that puzzles have come up in her research as great stress relievers. This links to my crosswords which I'm really happy about - as they force the reader to engage with the text and also act as a stress reliever!

Will also mentioned that I didn't have the answers to the crossword included in the zine - these could be published in the next issue to encourage people to buy.

Each edition could have something to do with mindfulness. Looking back, I thought that my ideas fr range were a bit naff (plant labels, tea bags etc.) but Will and Lucy assured me that these felt relevant and could work really well. One edition could have two tea bags included, the next - a packet of seeds and so on.

In terms of the logo and design so far:

Lucy said that the logo was strong and that my designs so far show a consistent identity - which was nice to hear as this is something that I often doubt and don't think I'm very good at!

The colour explorations I've done so far. however, I know aren't very good - and they confirmed this. They said that it would be really nice to see "nice muted tones" and colour combinations like red and pink. I get what they mean - a nice pastel-ish stock with a vibrant over print - very nice and I'll get on it.

Newsagent things:

The shop front idea is really good. This is something that I'm glad I thought about but also a bit annoyed as I know that I can't actually buy a corner shop to experiment with signage. BUT Lucy mentioned the idea of a billboard with the dimensions of a billboard - something to think about very interesting.

We got talking about other things inspired by newsagents and one good idea was: Scratchcards!!! A positive scratch card would be really good to include and Will gave me the idea for the name Fingers Crossed inspired by the National Lottery logo:

I'm really excited about this concept because I could hijack this logo utilising my smiley face icon. (Another name that was mentioned was Positivity Lottery but that wasn't received as well).
