I haven't been able to focus on the production of the layout of the publication while I have not fully decided on the final form and which processes I am including.
My previous dummy copy that I made a couple of weeks ago is what I have been basing my ideas off of, but I had some issues with it that needed to be solved. The size was perfect: 5 x 8 inches. The spiral binding is still happening. However, within this copy every rule page has perforated edges with removable tabs (with the intention of being able to share the rules with friends). My issue with this is that this page then can't have a different rule on the back side - so it means that I have to include a lot more pages than I want to.
As well as this, each photo page had the die cut slits so that people could insert their own photos. I really like this idea, but realised that when a photo is inserted it creates white squares on the back, so I don't like the idea of using it throughout the book - as it would ruin the look throughout.
I really like the idea of including both of these processes as they make the publication more interactive - however they don't work when being integrated into list of rules. Instead, I've decided to include them at the end. This way there will be:
-the front cover
-an intro page
-ten double page spreads for the rules
-two pages with perforates tabs
-three pages with die cut slits
-the back cover
Furthermore, when I made my new dummy copy I wanted to try using the binder machine in the library. The binder didn't do very well with the odd sizing of my publication and the holes were small, thin rectangles so I don't think that my spiral bind would fit through them very comfortably. Instead, I think I'm going to try and draw out a grid and hole punch it manually.
