Colour Development

My crit also made me realise that the pages of the publication should be alternating bright coloured stock - rather than just one. I was contemplating introducing a spot colour as I thought that the publication wasn't colourful enough, but this is definitely more impactful (I still on plan also experimenting with how a spot colour looks with the numerous colours.)

I've been limiting myself to G. F Smith's colorplan range as this is really nice, double-sided  paper but this has been getting me down when designing as the colours can tend to look dark and muddy and aren't as vibrant as I want them to be. I decided to branch out and start using the colours that I want to use. I made the above colour chart to compare all of the colours within the publication: the ink, the bind, the CMY tip-ins and this really helped with coming up with my colour scheme.

I absolutely love how the publication looks with alternating colours - it's a lot more successful than having one running colour throughout. I also really like the fact that due to the double sided pages, the spreads are different half and half.
