- Past Covers taken from popular Nu Jazz artists (Jaga Jazzist, The Cinematic Orchestra, Szun Waves)
- Past covers are very reminiscent of early 90s design, contemporary for the time but slightly dated now. Very graphic, no connotations to Jazz influence, more digital, new-age etc.
Ideas taken from past covers:
- Szun Waves
Abstract music score in a non-traditional music score composition (circular rather than horizontal). The relation that the bold, rugged marks have with the minimal, discreet type is nice and contemporary. This design is the most emotional, more reminiscent of the jazz than the electronic influences through the use of loose, expressive marks.
- Robert Glasper Experiment
I already had the idea to take portraits of musicians / other photography and modify it physically or digitally to visually communicate the digital adaptation happening in Nu jazz. This idea is expressed in the cover, though the designer has merged two photos together.
The anenon cover features a long exposure shot of a saxophone player. The image as a whole is not that interesting, however, I think that using long exposure photography could be an interesting technique of visually communicating the long, drifting notes within Nu Jazz.
