Getting selected by Oripeau
Submitting my poster and being told by Oripeau that it will be posted up at the end of summer gave me
a great boost in confidence. I previously thought that I was bad at ‘contemporary’ design but now realise
that there is not one style of contemporary design and that I can do it. I also loved interacting with the
people at Oripeau through Instagram and emails because it gave me my insight into the real world of
graphic designers.

Weekly Pub Quiz

Going to the pub quiz at Headrow House every tuesday has helped me bond with my friends on my
course and is also a good break from uni work - benefiting it in the long run. It’s free to enter, you get
free pizza, and one week we won!

Foundation year end of year exhibition

My end of year exhibition for my foundation year was small but it was the first time I had a role in
setting up the event and also my first time attending an exhibition my work has been shown in. It was
really beneficial to get an understanding of what goes into an exhibition and how to layout the space. I
now feel more confident that I can do an even better job at setting up an exhibition now that I have the
experience.

Tom Misch & Yussef Dayes ‘What Kinda Music’ designed by Matt de Jong

If I had to choose any cover artwork that’s inspired me it would have to be Matt de Jong’s cover for Tom
Misch and Yussef Dayes’ ‘What Kinda Music’ (which hasn’t even been fully released yet). I’m really
into warm colour palettes and gradients and the fact that this record has a nod to the classic Blue Note
designs by Reid Miles through the use of type makes me very happy.

Two Door Cinema Club / Motion Graphics

In October I went to go see Two Door Cinema club. I’m not really a fan of their music anymore, but it
was nostalgic and I was really surprised by the motion graphics on the big screens behind the band.
They had soft gradients combined with geometric moving patterns and I was so impressed that I started
to do my own research on motion graphics. I became really interested and I genuinely think that this is a
skill I would like to gain by the end of my degree, I just have to learn After Effects first.
