Advice

Always be confident in what you like
When starting uni I thought that the design I liked was too ‘fine art’ or simply not ‘graphic’ enough.
This does not matter. Inspiration can come from anywhere and my own style will develop and be affected
by what I like over time. It would, however, be useful to keep up with contemporary design more, even
though I prefer ‘retro’ design.

Take criticism well and utilise it

Criticism is there to make a design better, not to make you feel bad. Countless times has a design been
improved due to someone else's comments or suggestions. I must remember - I do not always know best.

Do more independent research for fun. Research and read about the things that you like. Learn about
graphic theory. All of this will make you a better graphic designer and also might be fun.

Make use of the resources around you
Stop being so scared of new things and take your designs further by using the resources that are available
because they won’t always be so accessible and cheap. Making stickers or prints can allow you to see
your designs in context, like they would be in the real word.

Don’t over-plan
Try and be more spontaneous when designing and stop wasting time with constant planning and
preparation. Sometimes going into something with no rules is better than setting yourself some.
