Final GIF + Rationale

The colour theory behind our GIF is 'afterimage'. After Images are what you see when you stare at a point in the centre of an image for a prolonged period of time and then look away at a white wall. When you look at the blank wall, you see an After Image of the thing you were looking at, but it is inverted.

For our particular GIF we wanted to explore how you can represent specific brands by just using colour rather than the logo. For example Tesco is red, white and blue, so we did our colours for our GIF in green, orange, and black as these are the opposite colours. Our GIF contains abstract marks that were gathered from a Tesco carrier bag. The entire GIF is in these inverted colours, and the last few frames resemble the After Images.

Other than After Images, the GIF takes inspiration from designers Palefroi and their ambiguous hand drawn animations. It is also inspired by director Stan Brakhage's short film Mothlight, in which Brakhage layered film with insect wings to create a speckled texture.
