Audience Consideration
From my research I have realised that this book is aimed at people who did not actually enjoy science as a subject at school. Bryson himself did not, and in later life decided that he wanted to learn about the universe and so wrote this book for others to read and learn. The main aim of the book was to make science accessible to people who find scholarly articles and text books sound like another language. However, I work in a bookshop and this book is very popular, but with middle aged men. I have not sold this book to anyone under the age of 45. I think that is definitely down to the uninteresting cover - if more imaginative, maybe it would appeal to the younger audience that it was written for.
