After taking my photos of the hand signals I began really quickly editing and creating quick compositions. I wanted to really focus on creating a dramatic effect that visually communicated the drama and emotion within a improvised jazz piece. I realise now, however, that what I have achieved is more of a 90's grunge aesthetic, which accidentally is perfect. Nu Jazz as a genre is a combination of Jazz and Techno, however, I have been struggling with visually communicating this. By leaning in to these more grunge 90's visuals with a more niche jazz meaning behind the imagery, I can create an interesting balance of the two ideas and highlight the interesting juxtaposition within the genre.
