Crit + Idea Refinement

I my crit I discussed a few of my differing ideas that I have worked on so far as well as the processes that I have used. What I learnt was that my research is interesting and varied: the idea for the solar eclipse as well as the digestion idea both work. However, those in my crit had some points on how to push my designs that I have already made even further. For example, it was pointed out to me that my symbol designs made from moon chart grids may be slightly too far from my object. Personally, I think that because the moon chart was used to draw an actual safety pin, the relevancy is still there. Even the cropped version with a rationale would work. Still, someone mentioned that the the three white stripes (unintentional) read Adidas to them - so I think I am going to have a go at reworking this idea and pushing it further. It was also pointed out that using texture and mid-tones seem to work really well in conjunction with my designs, definitely better than a flat black and white surface.

Today, I also planned out what I was going to do next by organising my ideas into a chart. This way, I can visualise what goes where in terms of Icon, Index and Symbol. This might be slightly over-kill, however, It has helped me manage to pick my three best ideas and how I can use them for each category. I am going to begin with photography for icon and whichever is best, finalise that. Then, with the two that are left, move onto Index. Again, which ever is best, I will finalise. And then, I will develop the last idea into  a symbol.
